Police Want To Question Woman In Brooklyn Smash-And-Grab Jewelry Robbery
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police said Thursday that a woman was wanted for questioning in the smash-and-grab robbery of a jewelry store in Midwood, Brooklyn earlier this month.
Police sources told CBS2 Thursday that in addition to the two men seen on surveillance video pointing a gun and smashing a jewelry case with a hammer, investigators were also searching for a woman who they believe may have acted as a decoy.
On a separate surveillance video, the woman is seen browsing the display cases in the store. She then held open the front door and allows the robbers to enter, police said.
The door is kept locked and requires a buzzer for entry, sources said.
The woman was wanted for questioning, police said.
Once the robbers stormed in and smashed open the glass cases, a suspect grabbed every bit of jewelry he could get his hands on. It all happened while shocked customers and employees stood with their hands in the air.
The midday heist upset neighboring merchants.
"I think we should get more protection just like other neighborhoods because we got a lot of jewelry stores," Sheepshead Bay resident Afzal Aslam said earlier this month.
The store reopened shortly after the robbery.
