12/22 CBS2 Monday Afternoon Weather Headlines

By Matt DeLucia, CBS2 Meteorologist/Weather Producer

Good afternoon all,

Unfortunately, it's time to say goodbye to the sun for the next few days. Clouds will continue to dominate today, with some stray showers and drizzle moving through later this evening. Expect an afternoon high in the mid 40s for NYC.

Tonight will stay on the mild side, only dropping a few degrees overnight. The exception will be the far NW suburbs, where a Freezing Rain Advisory will be in effect from 6 PM tonight until 4 AM tomorrow, currently for Sussex and Orange counties. Temps will dip into the lower 30s here, so any shower activity has the potential of freezing on contact. Nothing major, just something to be aware of if you'll be out and about late this evening.

The rain showers look to be a little more widespread come tomorrow, on/off across the area through the day. We bump up the temps into the lower 50s.

Good news or bad news first? I like good news, so... we're expecting temps to top out in the upper 50s to near 60 on Wednesday! Forecast high for NYC is 58. The bad... the temp surge is the result of a strong sytem that will bring a soaking rain for Christmas Eve, heavy at times during the evening. Winds will be gusty as well.

Christmas Day looks to start out wet, but the rain should taper off as we head into the afternoon. The gusty winds will hang around though. Temps will drop during the day, hanging in the 40s. Check back in soon for the latest!
