12/23 Tuesday Afternoon Weather Headlines

by Matthew DeLucia, Meteorologist/Weather Producer

Good afternoon everyone,

This may be the last work/school day of the week for some of you, and maybe even the last of the year! Unfortunately, it's pretty dreary out there today, and that will be the story through Christmas Eve.

Scattered showers and drizzle will continue this afternoon, with an expected high of 51 in the city. Right now, it looks like we'll get a lull in the widespread action for this evening, with just some spotty showers around the area. Temps stay fairly mild overnight in the mid to upper 40s.

Tomorrow is the main event, with rain moving back into the area by sunrise. Expect periods of moderate to heavy rain throughout the day. I wouldn't be surprised if we heard a couple rumbles of thunder as well. Definitely will make for some messy travel as you head off to any Christmas Eve festivites, so have the umbrellas ready! The good news is it will be very mild tomorrow, with temps reaching the upper 50s to near 60 ahead of a cold front. Man, if this system was coming through with cold air in place... what a snowstorm we would have on our hands! No white Christmas this year though, as this will be ALL rain.

Looks like the steady rain will wrap up prior to sunrise Christmas Day, but not before causing a wet trip for Santa's sleigh. Expect a general 1-2" of rain before all is said and done. Some lingering showers in the early morning should give way to clearing and some sunshine for Christmas afternoon. After an early high of 56, temps will drop during the day into the 40s as the front passes. It will be windy, so you'll wanna make sure those holiday decorations are secure.

Check back tonight for the latest on your Christmas forecast!
