L.I. Teen Performs Song Written By Maryland Woman Severely Injured In Car Crash

MASTIC BEACH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- It was a happy and emotional day for a 25-year-old songwriter who was in a coma after being severely injured in a car accident.

Laura March suffered a traumatic brain injury and nearly died nine years ago in a car accident, but she turned that horrific experience into a positive one and began writing songs.

March traveled to Mastic Beach, Long Island from Maryland Wednesday where she received a wonderful Christmas gift, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported. She got to hear one of her songs performed by 19-year-old singer Kayla Vega.

"I spent many years perfecting my lyrics," March said. "To hear them sing is phenomenal."

The two hugged again and again.

"This is the best thing I think I've ever done in my life," Vega said.

March said the song, called "Brave," means "only you can do it."
