Jets Renegotiate Backup QB Matt Simms' Contract

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Jets have renegotiated the contract of backup quarterback Matt Simms, keeping him from becoming an exclusive-rights free agent this offseason.

Simms has spent the last three seasons with the Jets, including serving as the third-string quarterback behind Geno Smith and Michael Vick this year. He went 3 of 8 for 39 yards against Kansas City last month in his only regular-season action.

The Jets also announced Tuesday they have signed kicker Andrew Furney, running back Daryl Richardson and punter Jacob Schum to reserve-future contracts. Linebacker Mario Harvey, defensive back Keith Lewis, cornerback Dashaun Phillips, offensive lineman Brent Qvale and linebacker Chris Young were signed to reserve-future deals Monday.
