Jets Stay Busy In Search For GM, Interview Maccagnan, Schedule Grier

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Jets have interviewed Mike Maccagnan, Houston's director of college scouting, for the team's general manager position.

Owner Woody Johnson and consultants Ron Wolf and Charley Casserly met with Maccagnan on Monday as they look to replace John Idzik, who was fired last Monday after two seasons.

Two other candidates — Kansas City director of player personnel Chris Ballard and New Orleans director of player personnel Ryan Pace — have declined interview requests with the Jets.

The team was to speak to Miami director of college scouting Chris Grier on Tuesday, according to Pro Football Talk.

New York has already interviewed Philadelphia director of pro personnel Rick Mueller, Seattle director of pro personnel Trent Kirchner, Cleveland executive chief of staff Bill Kuharich and Jets senior director of football administration Rod Graves.

The Jets were also said to have reached out to former NFL executive Scot McCloughan about a personnel job, but the former front office rising star, who stepped away from the league last year due to personal reasons, reportedly reached an agreement Tuesday to become the GM of the Washington Redskins.

McCloughan has been credited with helping build the 49ers team that went to three straight NFC title games under head coach Jim Harbaugh, and also for having a hand in the construction of the reigning Super Bowl champion Seahawks.

The Jets also are searching for a head coach after firing Rex Ryan.
