Uniondale Man Sentenced In 2012, Amityville Box-Cutter Attack

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A Uniondale man has been sentenced to has been sentenced in a boxcutter attack on an Amityville man following a dispute with a woman in Freeport in 2012.

Acting Nassau County DA Madeline Singas announced that Wayne Speaks, 48, has been sentenced to 9 years in prison and 5 years of post release supervision.

Speaks pleaded guilty to two counts of first degree assault, three counts of first degree robbery, three counts of second degree robbery, a single count of second degree robbery, and criminal possession of a weapon in the third and fourth degree.

"The serious injuries suffered by the victim in this case demanded a serious sentence for the person responsible for these crimes, which hopefully will deter others from engaging in similar acts of violence," Singas said.

Singas said that Speaks and a co-defendant robbed and assaulted the victim at the Yankee Clipper Motor Inn in Freeport, using a boxcutter.

The case against Speaks' co-defendant remains open. The woman, Wendi Seletsky, pleaded guilty in March 2013 to second degree assault.

The victim suffered lacerations to the lip, leg, and forehead, and lost three teeth in the attack.
