Toms River Mayor To Participate In Global Warming Expedition To Norway

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Toms River Mayor Thomas Kelaher admits he's skeptical about the cause of climate change.

The 82-year-old told the Asbury Park Press it's obvious that the water is rising and the polar ice caps are melting. But he said he's not sure if that's the result of humans or just natural environmental changes.

Kelaher and a team of 15 others will investigate first-hand during an expedition to northern Norway in June 2016. The group will see how flooding has impacted the food source for reindeer and other environmental changes.

The privately funded trip will be filmed for the PBS show "Nova."

Kelaher was chosen because of the impact Hurricane Sandy had on Toms River.
