Another Anti-De Blasio Banner Flies Near New York City Amid Rift With Police

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - The anti-Bill de Blasio campaign that began days after NYPD officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were gunned down in Brooklyn continued Tuesday.

Photos posted on social media showed a plane trailing a banner calling for de Blasio's resignation.

The message reads "De Blasio Get Off The Pot Resign We ♥ NYPD."

Previously, banners reading "De Blasio Our Backs Have Turned To You" have been spotted flying along the Hudson river.

Police unions blame de Blasio for fostering an anti-NYPD sentiment they claim contributed to the shooting deaths.

The mayor has denied criticizing police and aides say he will not apologize for remarks the unions have deemed anti-police.

Some NYPD supporters also gathered in Queens Tuesday to make their feelings known at a pro-police rally. About 100 people gathered Tuesday afternoon at Queens Borough Hall.

The event was led by retired NYPD Capt. Joseph Concannon, who said he wanted to demonstrate the kind of support law enforcement has in the city, despite recent anti-police brutality protests.

Concannon said other rallies are planned in other boroughs.

On Tuesday, de Blasio said he did not become depressed, despite feeling very sad, after the killings.
