Police Commissioner: Major Crime In Nassau County At All-Time Low
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Major crime in Nassau County is at a record low.
Acting Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter announced Tuesday that major crime is down 9.5 percent, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported. The crime rate is lowest in the county since statistics were first recorded in 1966.
The categories for major crimes include murder, sex crimes, robberies, burglaries, grand larcenies and felony assaults.

"Most notable is homicides in the Nassau County police district is down from 13 to 6 -- a 53 percent reduction in homicides year over year," Krumpter said.
The commissioner credited innovative technologies, including license plate readers and the gunfire surveillance network ShotSpotter, for helping to cut crime.
