Knicks Super Fan Ignores Awful Team, Attempts To Attend Every Game

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Knicks have endured a brutal 2014-15 season, but that hasn't deterred one super fan from betting it all on his team.

Dennis Doyle is getting to see history in the making, just not the history he would have preferred. At 7-36, the Knicks have the worst record in the NBA.

"Historic for the wrong reasons," Doyle recently told CBS2's Meg Baker.

Doyle lost his job at a law firm the same day Phil Jackson got hired as team president back in March. So the lifelong devotee took his love to the next level, spending his savings to see every game and documenting the journey.

"I sort of had that third-life crisis. I wanted to do something radically different and that's about the time I got this idea," Doyle said.

He purchased home season tickets for $3,500, and said he will attend approximately 35 away games. The cost of watching loss after loss, including booking transportation around the country and back -- and also to London -- has been around $25,000, Baker reported.

"It's a way to go to cities in the U.S., cities I otherwise wouldn't have an opportunity to go to," Doyle said.

Other fans have commiserated with Doyle and marveled at his endeavor.

"Gotta hand it to him – it's an experience, a life experience," one fan said.

"That's crazy; that's crazy. I can't understand that," another said.

"I hope the Knicks do something super special for him because that's taking 'super fan' to the highest level," another said.

Following a franchise-record 16-game losing streak, the Knicks have won two straight. And while this season is almost certainly beyond saving, Doyle said he is determined to see his mission through to the end.

"Another three months to go and hopefully I'll make it," Doyle said.

Doyle said this season's excursion is not his last chapter. Publishers are apparently interested in his story, so he might have a book deal, Baker reported.
