1/26 CBS2 Afternoon Weather Headlines

By Justin Lewis
CBS2 Meteorologist

On and off light to moderate snow is expected through this afternoon as a clipper system swings through...coating to 3". Temperatures will struggle to get into the upper 20s by day's end; winds will be out of the northeast at 15-25 mph with wind chills peaking around 15°.

Our coastal storm intensifies tonight. Expect blizzard conditions... snowfall rates of 2-4"/hour, winds gusting to 40 mph in the city (60+ mph far east), and visibilities of 1/4 mile or less at times. The NJ/NY shores should expect flooding and erosion late tonight.

Tuesday will start with a moderate to heavy snow, tapering to a light snow by late in the day. Expect blowing snow throughout the day, so travel will be difficult once again (especially for the morning commute). Total snow accumulations will be 18-24" for the immediate area; 6-12" across western NJ; 24+" possible in SW Connecticut and Suffolk County.

We'll catch a break on Wednesday with the return of sunshine. Temperatures will continue to struggle... highs only in the upper 20s with a persistent breeze... feels like temps only peak at about 20°.

Another clipper will approach on Thursday... a chance of snow during the afternoon hours with snow likely into the evening hours.
