Jenrry Mejia Avoids Arbitration, Agrees To Deal With Mets
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Reliever Jenrry Mejia and the New York Mets reached agreement Wednesday on a one-year contract worth $2,595,000 and avoided salary arbitration.
Mejia made $509,675 last year. He asked for $3 million this season and the team offered $2.1 million.
The right-hander went 6-6 with 28 saves and a 3.65 ERA in 63 games last year.
In December, Mejia said he was OK with a healthy Bobby Parnell reclaiming the closer's role going into 2015. Parnell is coming off Tommy John surgery, while Mejia had sports hernia surgery after the season.
"Whatever job they giving to me I gotta be there to help my team," Mejia said at the team's annual Christmas party. "I can throw seventh inning, eighth inning, ninth inning whatever, I got to be ready to play the game that's all."
First baseman Lucas Duda is the last Mets player left in arbitration.
