Police: Woman Was Nearly Shot Right Through Apartment Peephole In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Friday were searching for two suspects who allegedly almost shot a woman right through the peephole in her apartment door in the Bronx.

Around 12:10 p.m. this past Wednesday, the 30-year-old woman was in her apartment on Wayne Avenue in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx, when she heard a knock at the door, police said.

She asked who was there, and one man on the other side asked if Keith was home. The woman looked through the peephole and saw a man she did not know on the other side, and told him no one named Keith lived there, police said. The first man left.

But moments later, another man knocked on the door and again asked for Keith. The woman again said no one named Keith lived there, and looked through the peephole again, police said.

As she did so, the man on the other side pointed a gun and fired one round right into the peephole, police said. The bullet struck the metal casing of the peephole but missed the woman, police said.

The suspect then ran off, police said. The victim refused medical aid on the scene, police said.

Police have released surveillance images of the second suspect walking into the woman's building.

Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
