2/1 CBS2 Sunday Afternoon Weather Headlines

Good Afternoon!

Clouds are on the increase out there right now ahead of tonight's storm system. Expect a high of 33 in the city, with a few flakes around heading through the evening.

Super Bowl parties look dry to start and snowy to finish. The steady snow moves in from west to east between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. today. Snow will continue overnight, heavy at times.

As we get close to the morning rush hour Monday, that's when things look to become even more messy. The rain/snow line will be working its way northward. Why the changeover? Even though temps will be dropping through the day tomorrow, there is a layer of warm air aloft. This means icing concerns! Sleet and freezing rain are likely in the city tomorrow morning. Far north and west, it looks to remain all snow and that is where you'll find the highest snow totals in the 8- to 12-inch range. As for the city, I think we'll be closer to the 4-inch mark prior to the mixing. Even less as you head south, where a prolonged period of rain is expected.

As this system departs late tomorrow afternoon and evening, we're watching two things: There will likely be a final round of snow showers as cold air is funneled in, but this won't be as nearly widespread as the morning. Also, even areas that changed over to rain will be dropping below freezing by the evening hours. This means refreezing will become an issue, so you'll want to take it easy on your way home, too.

We clear out and the sun returns for Tuesday, but BRRRR ... we're back in the low 20s for a high. Many suburbs will drop into the single digits Monday into Tuesday, with even subzero temps in spots!

Above is a look at tonight's weather for Super Bowl kickoff out in Arizona. ... Can we trade? And to think it was being played right here a year ago! Check back in tonight for the latest on our winter storm!
