2/1 CBS2 Sunday Morning Weather Headlines

By Mark McIntyre Jr, CBS2 Meteorologist/Weather Producer

Good morning and happy February! It sure is a cold start to the month and wouldn't you know we have another winter storm that we're tracking.

Mostly dry much of the day, just cloudy and cold with a high of 33 in NYC. Some light flakes flying in the evening but really, the main show arrives late tonight and continues through the overnight. For those trying to get home from Super Bowl parties, you're going to have some issues, especially north/west of NYC.

Folks north of I-84 into the Catskills look to get the most snow, 8-12". Closer to NYC, much less snow but with a greater threat of icing due to sleet/freezing rain. For the Jersey Shore and South Shore of LI? They could get a coating to 2", but quickly washed away as temps surge and those areas flip over to all rain. Flooding concerns arise for Eastern LI where heavy rain will quickly melt away 2+ feet of snow.

Everything winds down during the evening commute, but not before one final burst of snow that could accumulate an additional inch. Tuesday is just brutal with temps starting off in the single digits, even below zero in spots.

Stay tuned for more updates regarding tonight's storm.
