Fire Destroys Home In Elizabeth, New Jersey

ELIZABETH, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Two people were pulled from a house fire in Elizabeth, New Jersey Sunday.

As WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported, neighbors on Fairmont Avenue saw the flames shooting out of the top of the two and a half story home.

"A huge fire on the roof," one neighbor said.

Elizabeth, New Jersey

Elizabeth Fire Chief Thomas McNamara said just after 6 p.m. his crews arrived to heavy fire on the second floor and hot spots keep flaring up.

"The hidden pockets are part of the attic roof caved in on top of some of the belongings up in the attic," he said.

More than 80 firefighters on the scene were able to contain the flames to one house. Though the fire consumed its contents and part of the structure.

"The main fire building is probably a total loss," McNamara said.

The conditions of the people pulled from the home are unknown.
