Report: Jets, Bills Expected To Pursue Super Bowl Champion Darrelle Revis
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Darrelle Revis finally has his Super Bowl ring, and he got it wearing ... gasp ... a Patriots uniform.
Just to make things even more miserable for Jets fans.
"It feels great, but it's surreal," the six-time Pro Bowler told reporters after the Patriots shocked the Seahawks, 28-24, in Super Bowl XLIX. "I'm here, man. It's been an awesome ride."
The 29-year-old, who starred for the Jets from 2007-12, signed a two-year, $32 million contract with the Patriots prior to the season.
"Since I sat down with (Patriots owner) Robert Kraft and (head coach Bill Belichick), this was the reason," Revis said. "To be part of this legacy that we did tonight and win the Super Bowl, to be part of something great. I'm happy they had arms open for me, especially coming from New York. It's been an amazing journey."
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots are likely to decline Revis' $20 million option for next season, which would make him a free agent.
If Revis hits the open market, both the Jets and the Bills -- now coached by Rex Ryan -- are expected to pursue the four-time All-Pro, Schefter reports.
Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan has said that he'll be aggressive this offseason, and he has plenty of cap space to work with. As evidenced by this past season, Gang Gang sorely needs help in its secondary.
At owner Woody Johnson's news conference following the firings of Ryan and general manager John Idzik, he said, "I'd love for Darrelle to come back." Though Johnson later offered a mea culpa for misspeaking, tampering charges were reportedly filed against the Jets.
Revis played all 16 regular-season games for New England this season. He recorded 47 combined tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and two interceptions.
He added three tackles, a sack and an interception in the postseason.
