Connecticut DMV To Close Norwalk, Bridgeport Branches Temporarily For Computer System Overhaul

NORWALK, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -  Connecticut Department of Motor vehicles offices in Norwalk and Bridgeport will be closed all next week as a massive computer upgrade gets underway

As Motor Vehicle Commissioner Andres Ayala explained, the end result will likely shorten the visits of all customers.

"We are trying to bring DMV into the 21st Century. DMV computers have been the same computer systems we've been working on for 30-40 years," Ayala told WCBS 880's Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.

"We are alternating the closings to avoid major inconveniences that could come with shutting all offices for one week. This new system, when up and running, will bring many more customer service benefits than we have now," Ayala said in a statement.

Ayala said all customer information will be centralized and as a result, customer visits will be shorter and more efficient.

Below are the closing dates for branches:

2/17 - 2/20 Bridgeport and Norwalk offices, and the Stamford photo license center that is by appointment only.

2/24 - 2/27 New Britain and Enfield offices

3/3 - 3/6 Willimantic and Norwich offices

3/10 - 3/13 Waterbury and Danbury offices

3/17 - 3/20 Hamden and Old Saybrook offices

3/24 - 3/27 Wethersfield office
