New Jersey Cardiologist Accused Of Fondling 5 Female Patients

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey cardiologist accused of fondling five patients has been indicted.

Dr. John Strobeck, 68, of Saddle River, was indicted on five counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact for allegedly fondling five female patients in his Hawthorne office, said Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.

Each count carries a maximum term of eighteen months in New Jersey State Prison.

The indictment stems from a complaint made by one of the victims to the Hawthorne Police Department in May of 2012.

The alleged victim said Strobeck fondled her a number of times during medical examinations, according to Valdes.

That complaint triggered an investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit.

This investigation resulted in another alleged victim coming forward who also claimed that Strobeck fondled her during medical exams, Valdes said.

Subsequently, Strobeck was indicted in April 2014 and that indictment charged him with fondling these two initial victims, Valdes said.

After the announcement of that indictment, three additional victims came forward and alleged that Strobeck fondled them as well.

This caused the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office to seek the new indictment which charges him with fondling all five alleged victims.
