Ailing Melo Says He'll 'Probably' Play In All-Star Game

ORLANDO, Fla. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony says he'll "probably" play in Sunday's All-Star Game assuming his sore left knee is up to the task.

"I'm going to try," Anthony said, according to Newsday. "I'm going to try. Today's Wednesday. The game is on Sunday. I feel better today than I did yesterday."

But he still sat out the Knicks' final game before the All-Star break.

Anthony was inactive for Wednesday night's loss to the Orlando Magic to rest. He left in the fourth quarter of the Knicks' loss to Miami on Monday after playing 32 minutes and scoring 26 points before his exit. It was the 13th game this season that Anthony had missed.

The 30-year-old has acknowledged he may soon need to shut himself down for the rest of the season. Surgery is an option, too.

But he's still planning to start Sunday's showcase at Madison Square Garden, the home of the Knicks.

"As of now I'll be there," Anthony said. "I'll be at the game, I'll probably participate in the game -- unless something happens over the course of me rehabbing it in the next couple of days."

Anthony said he'll "know for sure" by the time Saturday's first All-Star practice rolls around.

Knicks coach Derek Fisher is leaving the call up to his player.

"Carmelo's going to go, so I think that decision will always be his," Fisher said.
