Westport, Conn., Police Hunt For Highway Robber Who Stole Thousands From Electrician

WESTPORT, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Westport police are looking for a highway robber who held up a driver and made off with thousands of dollars in cash.

An electrician was driving home Monday evening on Kings Highway North when he was cut off by another car and forced to stop, police told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.

The robber jumped out of his car, approached the electrician, flashed a gun and ordered him to unlock his car and hand over the cash, cops said.

The victim had just completed a long job at a store in Bridgeport, where the owner paid him in cash, police said. A number of people at the store witnessed the payment, and one of them apparently trailed the electrician as he drove home to Norwalk, said Westport police Capt. Vincent Penna.

"It was a substantial amount of currency that was stolen -- in the thousands of dollars," Penna said.

Penna described the robber as Hispanic, of medium build and with a noticeable scar on the right side of his face that extends from his lip to his ear.
