Cop Helps Woman Give Birth In New Jersey Living Room

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (CBSNewYork) -- A newborn Jersey girl could not wait to get to the hospital, she arrived into this world on her mother's living room floor.

"It was like a movie," mother Katrina Brookins told CBS2's Dave Carlin.

A movie featuring 7-lbs, 11-oz, Arianna as the leading lady. She was born miles away from the nearest hospital.

Katrina Brookins went to be, went into labor, made it downstairs and not a step beyond until the baby was born.

"It's like a shock that I had my daughter in the living room of my sister's house," she said.

Officer Tim Hoover was the first to arrive after the 911 call. He had never delivered a baby before.

"I had a dispatcher on the phone. We were speaking the whole time," he said.

Paramedics Amy Fitzpatrick and Gregg Lund arrived in the nick of time, as the living room turned into a delivery room.

"I'm glad they showed up pretty soon after because I'm like somebody better come out and help me too," Hoover said.

"It was a little scary, but at the same time I was glad they were all there to help me," Katrina added.

Arianna's dad Divine Johnson was not there for the birth.

"I was like wow it was just unbelievable," he said.

Katrina's sister Regina stood in for Johnson.

"The baby delivered and they asked me if I wanted to cut the cord and I did," she said.

Doctors expect a release on Saturday, so Arianna can return home to where she was born.

Brookins said next time she'll get right to the hospital the moment she thinks she might be going into labor.
