Father, Uncle Of Brooklyn Boy Killed In Elevator Attack Charged With Robbing Bank
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Two relatives of a 6-year-old boy who was stabbed to death in a Brooklyn elevator last spring have been charged with robbing a bank.
Prince Joshua "P.J." Avitto's father, Nicholas, and uncle, Scott Avitto, are being held without bail. They made initial court appearances in recent days.
Their lawyers haven't immediately responded to inquiries Thursday.
Nicholas and Scott Avitto are accused of participating in the heist at the Sovereign Bank on Montague Street in Brooklyn that netted about $8,200 in August 2012.
Nicholas Avitto became a public face of tragedy after his son and a 7-year-old friend were attacked in June at the Boulevard Houses in East New York. Seven-year-old Mikayla Capers survived.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Rev. Al Sharpton were among mourners at P.J.'s wake.
Ex-convict Daniel St. Hubert has pleaded not guilty to murder, attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
