Matt Harvey Throws Bullpen Session; Collins Calls His Curve 'Stinkin' Dynamite'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Matt Harvey took a major step in his recovery process this weekend.

This Mets' ace, who missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, threw his first bullpen session of spring training on Sunday.

He didn't limit the session to fastballs. The 25-year-old threw some secondary stuff, and tossed a devastating curveball that manager Terry Collins called "stinkin' dynamite."

"It's all there," Collins said. "Now it's just a matter of tightening up and making sure his arm strength is back when he gets back on the mound when he's in competition."

Harvey maintains that his right elbow is feeling strong, and the plan is for him to face batters later this week for the first time since August 2013.

"I think the expectations we all have as a team and as a whole is enough to want to get back so badly," the 2013 All-Star said, according to NJ.com. "I want to play this game as much as the next guy. Being back, being here and all the expectations that we have for our team is exciting, and I'm glad to be part of it."

On Friday, general manager Sandy Alderson said that Harvey's workload will be monitored, but he could throw 200 innings in 2015.
