Report: Teen Confessed To Fatally Shooting Dad At Kinnelon, New Jersey Home

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (CBSNewYorl/AP) -- According to legal documents, a New Jersey teenager accused in the shooting death of his father confessed to the crime.

Documents filed in the case show 18-year-old Travis Hofstetter told a 911 dispatcher that "I did something bad'' before confessing to the crime.

The documents state Hofstetter's father, 57-year-old James Hofstetter, was shot in the face and body with a rifle, NJ.com reported.

Travis was arrested a short time later in nearby Hardyston Township.

Travis is charged with murder and two weapons offenses in the Feb. 15 slaying, which occurred in the family's Kinnelon home. He remains jailed on $750,000 bail.

Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive in the shooting.

A judge recently approved Hofstetter's request for a public defender, but the attorney's name hasn't been disclosed.
