Woman In SUV Stuck On CT Train Tracks Saved By Policeman
NORWALK, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A woman whose sport-utility vehicle got stuck on Connecticut train tracks during a traffic jam as a train approached has been saved by a quick-thinking policeman.
Norwalk police say the SUV was stopped in bumper-to-bumper traffic with its rear axle on the tracks Tuesday when the crossing gates closed.
Officer Neil Robertson was nearby. He says he rushed to the cars in front of the SUV and got them to move forward as far as possible.
The woman was able to drive off the tracks seconds before the Metro-North Railroad train passed through.
Someone caught the end of the rescue on video and posted it online.
Police Chief Thomas Kulhawik says Robertson saved the woman from certain tragedy.
A Metro-North train hit an SUV at a Westchester County crossing Feb. 3, killing six people.
