Woman Reportedly Assaulted By Banana Mogul Boyfriend Says She Is Not A Victim

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Long Island banana mogul Thomas Hoey was sentenced to one and one-third to four years in prison Friday for assaulting his girlfriend in their Upper East Side apartment building.

He was also convicted of tampering with the evidence at the East 91st Street building by trying to clean up the trail of blood that led from the stairwell to their apartment.

As WCBS 880's Irene Cornell reported, prosecutors made the case that Hoey beat Allison Bretherick so often and so viciously that she once scribbled on the back of a photograph, "If you find me dead, Thomas Hoey did it."

But at sentencing, Bretherick stood by her man, saying that she's not a victim of Hoey, only a victim of the system and that now she's lost the happiness of living with her boyfriend.

It's not over, though, for Hoey, Cornell reported; he could face a sentence of 11 to 13 years in federal court once he's sentenced for supplying cocaine that killed a woman during a wild drug party in a Park Avenue hotel.
