Bronx Building Residents Form Tenants' Association To Highlight Poor Conditions

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Some Bronx residents say they are dealing with deplorable living conditions and want action.

The disgruntled residents founded 85 Strong Street Tenants' Association to try to get it fixed.

1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten spoke with the tenants of the building who said for three weeks no one in the building had cooking gas and had to use hot plates.

The residents said they complained and some gas was restored to all but 12 of the apartments, including those of the tenants' association leaders.

"Ironically we did a tenants' association meeting on Wednesday and all of a sudden on Thursday 80 percent of the building has gas except for the tenants' association leaders," Iris Perez said.

Perez also said residents are dealing with water leakage from roofs and outside walls, which causes visible damage.

1010 WINS reached out to the management company but has not yet heard back.
