3/1 CBS2 Sunday Afternoon Weather Headlines

Good afternoon and happy March!

The third coldest February on record for Central Park is behind us. That means we're done with the winter weather, right? Well, not exactly ...

We're starting off March with yet another winter storm moving through. Snow is currently moving in from west to east. This will become steady later this afternoon and early evening. We're going for a high of 33 today in the city, and as warmer air moves in aloft, snow will change to a wintry mix, mostly for the city and points south. This brings the freezing rain concern into the picture.

Winter storm warnings are in effect for parts of central New Jersey for this reason. While the lowest snow totals are expected here (between a coating to 3 inches), the potential of icing arrives, with up to a quarter-inch in some locations. Winter weather advisories for everyone else. Looks like a general 2 to 4 inches through the city, with 4 to 6 inches to the north, where it remains mostly snow. NYC itself could also see up to a tenth of an inch of ice when the mixing begins.

The good news is Monday's AM commute will be dry. However, roadways will still be slick so you'll want to leave yourself some extra time. Gradual clearing tomorrow with a high around 40. It will be turning breezy though, with NW winds 15-20 mph, gusting to 30. Clouds thicken once again on Tuesday, with some late rain/snow showers possible.

Be safe later today and tonight, as roads will become slippery very quickly. Check back in later for updates!
