NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are investigating the death of a 41-year-old mother of five who was shot in the back of the head inside a Bronx apartment building.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's sister, Mercedes Cox, calls the shooting senseless.

"I don't understand who would do this to her because she's nice, she's really nice. Why would they kill her? I don't understand, she's harmless," she told 1010 WINS' Kevin Rincon. "I don't understand who would take her from us."

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Mercedes Cox is hoping an arrest can provide answers.

"I just want to ask the person, 'Why?'" she said. "I just need answers...I hope they find the person."

The victim's sister and other residents said security at the building has been an issue.

"They need to do better than what they're doing, all this money that's entering this building...they should be able to secure us," Mercedes Cox said.
