21-Year-Old Syracuse University Student Athlete Found Dead In Times Square Hotel

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - A 21-year-old woman has died in a Times Square hotel.

Police say Sabrina Cammock, of Queens, was found dead at 9:20 a.m. Saturday in a room at the Hotel Edison on W. 47th Street.

First responders tried to save her, but there was nothing they could do, CBS2s Matt Kozar reported.

There were no signs of trauma and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

"(Did the officers, detectives say anything to you?) No, they were really quiet," Natalie Jones told CBS2, who was staying at the hotel.

Cammock, a senior at Syracuse University, was a member of the Women's Track and Field team where she participated in mainly sprints, according to a news release from the university. She majored in public health.

"We mourn as a campus community with all those whose lives Sabrina touched," the statement reads.

"Sabrina was a wonderful and remarkable person and student-athlete.  Our team and coaching staff are devastated by her loss. All of our thoughts are with Sabrina's family and friends," Syracuse University's head coach of track and field, Chris Fox, said in a statement.

It's Spring Break for Syracuse University students this week, but what brought Cammock to the hotel this weekend and who she was with is still a mystery, Kozar reported.

The Daily News reports Cammock and a group of friends were sharing a room at the hotel following a night of celebrating.

Police are looking into whether drugs or alcohol played a part in her death, Kozar reported.
