Police Apprehend Woman Who Escaped Custody In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman who escaped police custody while at Brookdale Hospital has been apprehended by police.

Carmen Riley disappeared from the hospital around 5:40 p.m. Friday after she had complained of feeling ill during her arrest.

Authorities said they stopped the 30-year-old in Brooklyn on Friday afternoon because she was not wearing a seat belt. During the traffic stop, officers discovered Riley's car was a rental that she never returned and that her driver's license was suspended, police said.

Riley was taken back into police custody on Saturday around 7 p.m. near Jamaica Avenue and Nichols Avenue in Brooklyn, police said.

She now faces charges of obstructing governmental administration and one count of escape on top of the initial charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and aggravated unlicensed operator, police said.
