3 NYPD Officers On Patrol Arrest 2 Men After Hearing Gunshots

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Police patrolling in a marked police van Friday night in Flatbush, Brooklyn when they took two men into custody after hearing gunshots.

The three uniformed officers, Andrew Feminella, Jose Delgado and Thaher Ahmed, were stopped at a red light at Erasmus Street and Nostrand Avenue when they heard the gunshots and saw two men fleeing, police said. The officers approached the men, who they saw throw a gun under a nearby vehicle, police said.

Authorities say a .22 caliber handgun was found at the scene.

The two suspects, 23-year-old Steven Cherenfant and 24-year-old Samkens Jose, were taken into custody and charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal use of a firearm and felony assault, among other charges.

As police investigated further, they found a 22-year-old man had been shot in the leg while on Nostrand Avenue; he was taken to Kings County Hospital and is in stable condition, police said.
