Police said 43-year-old Boyd Carrington returned home a short time later and was arrested.

Authorities said officers went to the home after a relative went to the precinct and reported that they were assaulted by Carrington, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.

Carrington is charged with six counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was also charged with assault for the domestic incident.

"I've been around him and his kids all the time and he absolutely adores them. He would give his life for his kids," a family friend told Hall.

Police said Carrington is the father of three of the children and the uncle of the other three. All of the children were released to a family member.

Carrington is being held at the First Precinct and was expected to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
