Latest Suspect In McDonald's Beating Arraigned On Robbery, Assault Charges

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The latest suspect to be arrested in the brutal McDonald's fight caught on camera in Brooklyn, faced a judge early Sunday.

Mercedes Wilkinson, 16, surrendered Saturday after police spent days looking for her, CBS2's Ilana Gold reported.

She is charged with robbery and gang assault. Bail was set at $50,000.

Four other suspects are also in police custody, and one other is at large. Police said the girls are members of a gang called "The Young Savages," CBS2's Matt Kozar reported.

The fight broke out at a McDonald's in Flatbush on Monday afternoon.

The video shows a group attacking a 15-year-old girl dressed in blue while dozens of spectators cheer. Some could even be seen climbing onto table tops to get a better look as six to seven girls pummeled and kicked the victim.

Workers at the McDonald's called 911, but police said it appeared no one in the crowd tried to help.

On Saturday, Tilani Marshall, 17, was arraigned on gang assault and robbery charges. Her attorney said her client is innocent.

"I'm confident that this case is going to be dismissed eventually as the facts unfold," said Audrey Thomas, Marshall's attorney.

Marshall and a 15-year-old, who CBS2 is not identifying, turned themselves in to police Friday night.

Investigators also have a 14-year-old in custody. They found her on a plane in Atlanta heading to Jamaica. She is awaiting extradition.

The alleged mastermind behind the beatdown, 16-year-old Aniah Ferguson, was the first to be arrested in connection with the crime. Prosecutors say she's a gang member with a violent past, accused of stabbing her brother and threatening her grandmother.

According to police, she went after the victim because the girl somehow wronged her friend.

Police say they know who the sixth suspect is and are working to track her down.

Police say the victim, who is recovering from a concussion, cuts and bruises, is cooperating with the investigation -- something she was not willing to do initially.
