Police: Suspects Stole Man's Cellphone, Punched Him At J Train Station

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Wednesday were searching for three suspects who ripped off a man's cellphone on a J Train heading from Queens to Manhattan back in December, and punched him after he gave chase.

Around 9:55 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22, the 33-year-old victim was getting onto the J Train at the 85th Street-Forest Parkway station in Jamaica, Queens, police said.

As the train was stopping, the suspect snatched the man's Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phone from his hand and ran, police said.

The man chased the suspect and his two alleged accomplices, and grabbed the suspect who had stolen the phone, police said. The suspect punched him twice in the face, police said.

The suspects ran off to street level, police said. The victim declined medical attention.

The suspects were all described as black males between the ages of 17 and 20. The one who stole the phone was described as standing 5 feet 7 inches tall and having a medium build, and wearing a two-tone blue bubble jacket and light colored pants.

The second suspect was described as having a thin build, and wearing a black jacket, tight red pants and a dark colored skull cap. The third was described as being 5 feet 7 inches tall, and wearing a red and white jacket, and a white hooded sweater with the hood over his head.

Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
