NYC Food Truck Lunch: Flounder Platter From Kim's Aunt Kitchen

Perry, the founder of New York Street Food, brings you his latest review on New York City street food.

If you're a seafood lover, as we are, it's difficult to find reasonably priced fish for lunch. One solution is Kim's Aunt Kitchen, a food cart on West 46th St that's been around for quite a while. They may not have a grammatically correct name, but they have good seafood lunches in the $5-8 range.

Some people don't even go to Kim's for the seafood. We saw several people ordering grilled chicken, with a small jam-packed container of grilled chicken and a side for only $4. You can see the full menu here.

We went for the seafood, ordering a flounder platter for $6.50.  A flounder sandwich is $5.

Platters come with your choice of white rice, lo mein or french fries. But what's the point of getting fried fish and not having french fries with it?

Lunch comes with 3 pieces of fried flounder. We're pretty sure the fish isn't fresh off the dock from Captree, but it tastes good, and where else can you get a flounder sandwich for $5, or a platter for $6.50.

The crinkle-cut fries went from a frozen bag into the deep fryer, but came out tasting fine. In the past, we had an issue with Kim's cooking oil being old, but it was fine this meal.

For a lunch of fried fish and french fries, there was remarkable little oil on the food.

Kim's Aunt Kitchen does not play the social media game, but they are busy every day at lunch. You can find them on 46th St just east of 6th Ave, right between Moshe's Falafel cart and several food trucks that rotate each day.

On the menu and on the side of Kim's cart it says Food Is Love in big letters. We couldn't agree more!
