Man Facing Attempted Murder Charges For Alleged Stabbing Over Cigarette

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A man accused of stabbing another man eight times during a dispute over a cigarette is now facing attempted murder charges.

New Brunswick police say 19-year-old Romeo Salas also faces two weapons counts stemming from the stabbing that occurred last weekend at a Suydam Street home.

Authorities say the 26-year-old victim was stabbed in the chest, back, abdomen and arms. He was treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Authorities say the victim identified Salas as the assailant.

Salas turned himself into police on Thursday. It wasn't known Saturday if he has retained a lawyer, and a telephone number for him could not be located.
