Paterson Man Faces Murder Charges Stemming From Fatal Botched Robbery

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A northern New Jersey man accused of taking part in a botched robbery that led to the victim's death has been charged with murder.

Bail was set at $1 million cash for Darell Gerard, a 24-year-old Paterson resident who was arrested Friday afternoon at his home.

Gerard is charged in the death of 35-year-old Omar Clark, a city resident who authorities say was walking near his home last November when he was confronted by two men seeking to rob him. Clark tried to escape and was shot in the leg by one of the assailants, and he died from the wound several days later.

Authorities have not said whether Gerard fired the shot that killed Clark. They also won't say whether anyone else has been charged in the case.
