NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police are investigating after a duffel bag with human remains inside was discovered in Queens Monday.

The remains were found on the shoreline at the end of Gibson Street in the Bayswater section of Far Rockaway, 1010 WINS’ Carol D’Auria reported.

Police said two feet with white socks and blue jeans could be seen through a garbage bag that was protruding from the duffel bag.

Authorities are still not sure of the gender or race of the person, D’Auria reported.

One woman, who lives just two blocks away, said there’s a lot of garbage in that area.

“I mean, in the summer there’s a lot of people there. In the winter there’s really nobody around,” she said.

The medical examiner will now determine the cause of death.
