NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Police have a high-tech clue in the search for a stolen iPhone.

Police released a “selfie” photo of a man suspected of taking an iPhone from a subway rider at Grand Army Plaza.

The alleged thief did not realize the phone has a security app that saved the picture and sent it to the owner, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. You can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or texting tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
