Former Nyack College Softball Coach Slapped With Slew Of Sex Abuse Charges

SOUTH NYACK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A local Christian college has been rocked by a sex scandal involving the women's softball coach and several members of the team.

Former Nyack College women's softball coach Kurt Ludwigsen is now behind bars. He was arrested after allegations of inappropriate behavior surfaced in March.

As CBS2's Tracee Carrasco reported, police say the 43-year-old faces 94 charges of forcible touching, sexual abuse, and harassment against 12 women on the team dating back to last October.

"Over that period of time, I'm sure there were more instances that we didn't charge," said South Nyack-Grandview Police Chief Brent Newbury.

The allegations were uncovered while the first-year head coach was traveling with the team in Arizona. The school said Ludwigsen was fired immediately and administrators are "committed to providing full support to the women at this time."

"Young woman that trusted that this person was going to lead them on the athletic field and provide role model type qualities," Newbury said.

Ludwigsen, who also went by the name Kurt Vogner, previously ran an Internet phone company that connected callers to adult entertainment stars.

Students at the Christian college were shocked.

"So sad. It's disappointing," Angelo D'Amato said, "We put a lot of requirements and expectations especially on coaches and teachers whatever the case may be, especially that they would be held to a certain standard."

On Thursday night, Ludwigsen remained in jail on $15,000 bail. He is set to appear back in court on Monday.
