'Mamma Mia!' To Close On Broadway In September After 14 Years

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- "Mamma Mia!," which bills itself as the eighth longest-running show in Broadway history, will end its 14-year run in September.

Creator and global producer Judy Craymer announced Thursday that the production by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and inspired by the songs of ABBA, will end its run on Sept. 5 at the Broadhurst Theatre, 235 W. 44th St.

"Mamma Mia!" is only one of five current musicals to have run for 10 years or more on Broadway, according to a news release. The show recently passed the lengthy runs of "Rent," "Miss Saigon," "42nd Street," "Grease," and "Fiddler on the Roof."

"Mamma Mia!" opened on Oct. 18, 2001 at the Winter Garden Theatre, 1634 Broadway, after a successful London premiere. The production at the Novello Theatre in London's West End debuted in 1999 and continues to play.
