Singer Billy Joel, Girlfriend Alexis Roderick Expecting First Child Together

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Is there a new trend among men to become dads later in life?

Billy Joel just announced he's expecting a baby with his girlfriend.

As CBS2's Jill Nicolini reported Wednesday, he has plenty of company.

More often we are seeing celebrities, especially men, having babies later in life. The "Piano Man" is the latest to announce that he is going to be a dad again.

It may be time for Joel to write another "Lullaby." The 65-year-old singer just announced he is having a baby with his 33-year-old girlfriend, Alexis Roderick.

He was inspired to write the song for his daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, who he had with his ex-wife, supermodel Christie Brinkley.

Now at the age of 29, Alexa Ray will become a big sister.

"There's no age limits to family. I'm very happy for him," Matt Kovary said.

Joel isn't the only celeb to become a dad later in life. Steve Martin, Clint Eastwood, Rod Stewart and Paul McCartney all have had children in their 60s, Nicolini reported.

"It doesn't matter. You can have kids at any age and just enjoy every moment of it because it goes way too fast," said Rose Giordano of Ossining, New York.

Proud father and hair salon owner Italo Rio Torzilli became a first-time dad at the age of 60. He shared some of his pictures of his 19-year-old daughter, Claudia, with Nicolini.

"I didn't think it be as great as it is. It's beautiful even now. I had so much fun with the kid when she was little, you have no idea," Torzilli said.

Nicolini: "For the people that say to you you're too old to go horseback riding and you're too old to do activities what do you say?"

Torzilli: "That's bologna. I don't believe in that! As long as you can walk and you are healthy you can do everything you can."

Although many people seem to support the decision of having children later in life, some Nicolini spoke to had concerns.

"The child will probably grow up not knowing its father in his teen years," said Herb Grosinger of New York City.

"It's great to have kids at each age, but we also have to be cautious about genetics," added Eleana Wallace of Florida.

What about woman who have kids later in life?

"That's sort of creepy I think," said Freeman Gunter of the city, adding when asked if there is a double-standard, "No, it's just that biology is different. I think it's too late for anyone, but stars can do anything they please."

"What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Why not? If a woman is capable, if she can have a baby at 65, why not?" Kevin Spellman added.

Joel and his girlfriend are expecting the arrival of their baby this summer, Nicolini reported.

The singer's rep added any further details of her pregnancy will be "kept under wraps until their new addition makes an official debut."
