Mets' Wright Placed On DL With Hamstring Strain

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Mets will have to make due without their captain for the next two weeks.

David Wright was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring, the team announced Wednesday. The Mets (5-3) described the injury as "mild."

Wright pulled his right hamstring while stealing second in the eighth inning against Philadelphia on Tuesday night. But he said this injury isn't nearly as bad as the strained right hamstring that sidelined him for seven weeks late in the 2013 season.

Wright was treated with a cortisone shot and will "resume baseball activities as tolerated" after two days of rest, the team said. Utility man Eric Campbell was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas.

"Real frustrating," Wright said after the 6-5 win. "I pride myself on going out there and trying to play every day, and this just sucks."

Wright's injury was the second of the night for the Mets.

Cleanup hitter Michael Cuddyer left after getting hit by a pitch on the left hand.

The team said X-rays were negative and Cuddyer has a bruise.

Cuddyer was plunked by a 90 mph fastball from Phillies starter David Buchanan, the second batter he hit in the second inning. Wilmer Flores also was hit with a 90 mph fastball but remained in the game.

Cuddyer was replaced by pinch-runner Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who took over in left field and made an outstanding catch in the corner moments later.

Buchanan was booed loudly by the Citi Field crowd when he came up to bat in the third.

Cuddyer, hit with the next pitch after Lucas Duda's three-run double, had an RBI single in the first. He joined the Mets as a free agent in the offseason, signing a $21 million, two-year contract.
