Derek Jeter: 'No Idea' When I'll Be Back At Yankee Stadium

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's safe to say Derek Jeter is happy with his decision to retire from baseball.

"To be honest with you, I don't miss it at all," the former Yankees captain said Wednesday night on SiriusXM's Mad Dog Sports Radio. "You know, it was the right time for me, so I'm content with what I'm doing now."

Jeter, 40, said he hasn't been following the Yankees too closely since playing his final game last September. The future Hall of Famer, who has said he'd like to own a team one day, has instead been keeping busy with his many business interests, including his website, the Players' Tribune.

"For years, I've always said that when I'm not playing, I really don't sit down and watch a lot of games. And when I say I needed to get away from it, I really did need to get away from it. This offseason, I didn't follow the moves and things like that," said Jeter, whose Players' Tribune company was hosting the show on SiriusXM. "I haven't really paid that much attention to it on purpose."

But he does miss the camaraderie of the clubhouse.

"I miss my teammates because, you know, you play with guys for a long time," Jeter said. "I keep in touch with a few of them. I'm happy with where I am. So, no, I do not miss the long hours, the working out. You know, it's a full-time job. I'm glad that I've moved on."

Jeter, who won five World Series rings in his 20 years with the Bombers, didn't make an appearance at spring training and was reportedly unavailable to throw out the ceremonial first pitch on opening day at Yankee Stadium.

He doesn't know when he'll make it back to the Bronx, though he left open the possibility of attending when the Yankees retire the numbers of former teammates Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte.

"I have no idea (when I'll return)," Jeter said. "I needed to get away from it for a while."

"I don't know. They're retiring a lot of my former teammates' numbers this year. I'm pretty sure I'll be up there for the festivities," he added. "I needed to get away from it for a little bit."
