DOT Deems Route 9 Worst State Road In New Jersey
SAYREVILLE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- New Jersey's Department of Transportation has crowned Route 9 as the worst state road in the Garden State.
Potholes, uneven pavement and constant construction are just some of the woes plaguing a stretch of road from Middlesex County into Monmouth County, 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck reported.
Two parts of Route 9 south in Middlesex County -- totaling 4.6 miles -- were ranked first and second worst by the DOT, according to a report by NJ.com. A 2.4-mile stretch of Route 9 in Monmouth County came in third.
"The road is pretty torn up," one driver said. "Sometimes if you're not paying attention, you hit some of the deeper potholes, you'll swerve a lot."

"It's constantly under construction, they're just constantly doing patch work instead of actual repair work on it," he added.
"I'm on this at 4:15 in the morning going into Manhattan and coming home I'm on it about 3:30 and it's bumper to bumper," another driver said.
The DOT insists conditions are improving, but admit more work must be done, Schuck reported.
The study does not include non-state operated roads.
