Sayville Plaza Business Owner: Constant Car Towing Is Negatively Affecting Business

SAYVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Business owners in a Sayville shopping center are upset after they say the landlord recently began towing cars almost immediately after a person parks in the lot in front of their stores.

Drew Alexander, of Cornucopia Natural Foods at the Sayville Plaza, said he has lost business because so many cars were towed away within seconds after drivers parked in the lot in front of his store.

There are signs that say it is a tow-away zone if you are not shopping at the plaza,WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.

"People who are using the lot to shop at Sayville Plaza, but also want to do other things in town, I feel that those people should be allowed to do that. I feel that if we do have to have restrictions on that, then we should do something such as parking validation," he said.

"We've seen a lot of unhappy people," Alexander said.

Alexander pointed out there is a free municipal lot next door where motorists can park and shop anywhere in the area.

The landlord did not return Hall's request for a comment.
