Report: Jets' Revis Heading To The White House With The Patriots

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Hey, he earned it.

When the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots visit President Barack Obama in the White House, an honor reserved for teams that win a major sports championship, a Jet will be tagging along.

His name is Darrelle Revis. Maybe you've heard of him.

Newsday reported Friday that the all-world cornerback will accompany his former teammates to our nation's capital next Thursday.

Revis played a huge role in the Patriots' fourth championship, and first since 2004, displaying the type of lockdown coverage that will undoubtedly land him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, someday.

The six-time Pro Bowler signed a five-year, $70 million contract with the Jets during the offseason. Revis was drafted No. 14 overall by the Jets back in 2007 and spent his first six seasons with New York before a contract dispute led to his trade to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prior to the 2013 season.

Revis made the Pro Bowl that season, but then was released by Tampa Bay. He then signed a one-year, $16 million contract with New England last offseason. The deal also had a team option for $20 million in 2015, but the Patriots chose to decline, setting the stage for his return to the Jets.

Revis got caught up in some controversy last weekend when his account on Instagram was involved in an ugly back and forth with some Patriots fans. He later said his account was hacked.
